[ These minutes of a committee hold in the framework of the french-german copperation on Zentralblatt-MATH (with FIZ and Cellule MathDoc as partners) may be of interest for the LIMES project. Some of the topics are of direct relevance for LIMES work packages ]

0. State of international servers

  - report has been given on different installations (no essential problem),
Göttingen and Cornell not yet installed, updates in New-York to be done
    regularly
  - split of the installation package
+ one for the kernel and dynamic pages (CG)
+ one for front and static pages (SG)
  - inclusion of Lecce's italian pages
  - demand for similar spanish pages (to be ready in ecm3)
  - transformation of MSC presentation (see below)
  - administrative edbm-query to verify state of the server (updates,...)
  - ZM front page to be propagated on EMIS mirrors net
  - online ordering : add some documentation in the read.me file (CG)
  - list of international servers (with specific data) to be installed on
    Berlin server (access through passwd)

1. Development of the MATH-DB
The test-CD should be produced end February, a complete CD-set in August

  a) 4-digit Volume number
    - in test-CD, display every item with 4 digits (AN and citations)

  b) Extension of the length of index terms
    - increase length on test-CD

  c) Treatment of stop-words
    - check size of indexes and retrieval processes when dropping;
if OK: drop stop-words in test-CD

  d) Division of data which are now assembled in the source in
      separate fields
    - leave as is, with structure in SO field. Describe structure of SO.
drop links to journal home pages.
    - correct BibTeX tag names in BibTeX output.
    - test-CD (with description of SO structure)

2. general purpose indexer (CMD)

  - middle/long term goal
  - documentation of PFS indexing rules needed, description of the ascii file
(and production of a CD with a large ascii file).
  - May 2000 CC: specifications (input, outpout, updates,...) and
present planning (purpose, impact on production process, ...)
  - application for updating international servers and generating db
    files : April 2001

3. Development of query and display

  a) HTML-coding of diacritical signs
    - apply JFM methodology: keep subset of TeX-coded characters, do
      conversions at output.
    - test-CD (incl. list of remaining TeX codes and iso-codes)

  b) HTML-coding of formulas
    - wait for standards (MathML)

  c) Facsimile of old volumes
    - experiment on tiff samples for combining size constraints, screen
      and printing output quality (LG)
    - report on dvd usage and availability for installation on
      international servers (CC Nov. 2000)
    - inclusion of dynamic links to 'Berlin' scanned images on the international
      servers (next edbm/zm application release)

  d) empty answer set
    - in case of one term queries and zero answer, display of neighborhood
of the query term in the index (kernel or application enhancement,
      next edbm/zm application release)

  e) pdf output
    - further testing on new pdf display (next edbm/zm release)

  f) links
    - links to Jahrbuch database (servers)

3. Services

  a) Proof of URLs on validity
     - propositions in instance for a url checker (CG, SG)

  b) Statistics
     - available on the Berlin server (report to be prepared for the May CC)
     - integrate log-file mechanism of Berlin server (next edbm/zm release)

  d) Online-ordering
     - extension of on-line ordering treatment (offers conditioned to ip
       range, issn,...) [MJ gives specifications]

  e) sections printing
     - simple application for producing section based extracts of the print
       version (CG)

4. `Side'-DBs

  a) Series
     - produce ascii file (RW)
     - used in connection with SO field (journal home page URL,...)
     - searchable list (abbreviation and long forms of journal titles,
       genealogy of titles)

  b) MSC
     - navigation and key-word search (from the ZM home page and query forms)
     - inclusion of Grenoble msc tool (HIGHEST priority, tentative term : 1st may)
     - inclusion of Euler MSC feature (choice giving prefilled forms)

  c) Authors
     - to be discussed in LIMES

  d) Addresses
     - same as for authors

  e) Access control, users
     - specifications given by MJ

  f) Individual users
     - passwd
     - investigate proxy servers (MJ)
